Mars Candy: The Sweet Legacy of
The journey of Mars, Incorporated is a testament to innovation and perseverance in the candy world. From its humble beginnings, focusing solely on candy creation, the company has grown leaps and bounds. Its origins are grounded in inspiration Forrest Mars found in a malted milkshake, leading to the birth of the Milky Way bar. This ingenious creation propelled Mars into households globally, even before the famed Mars bar made its debut in the UK. And as if that wasn't enough, the introduction of the Snickers bar within the next decade solidified Mars's prominent stature among top-tier American confectioneries.
The evolution of Mars, Incorporated was unstoppable. Venturing into pet food by the close of the 1930s, the company expanded its footprint. Yet, perhaps the crowning jewel was the introduction of M&M Candies in 1941 by Forrest Mars himself. This creation, combined with the later introductions of iconic candies like the Twix bar, 3 Musketeers, and Skittles, cemented its legacy in the candy industry.
Mars & Wrigley: An Alliance of Candy Titans
In the ever-evolving world of confectionery, Mars has never been one to rest on its laurels. Its progressive vision culminated in a significant partnership in recent years. Together with Berkshire Hathaway, Mars made the strategic move to acquire the Wrigley Company, a name synonymous with renowned chewing gum. This acquisition was notable because Mars, once a competitor with its Orbit gum, joined forces with Wrigley, resulting in one of the largest confectionery conglomerates in the United States.
From its early candy bars to this monumental merger, Mars has displayed a knack for identifying opportunities and forging impactful alliances. Today, their wide range of products, including their signature candy bars, continue to sweeten lives worldwide, showcasing the lasting influence of this candy titan.
